Monday Made It #4!
I am linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics once again for Monday Made It! But first, I have to tell ya'll the coolest thing that happened. I was on Pinterest last night just looking through the education section and I saw the picture of my quiet critters (see here) from my blog! No lie, I kinda felt like a writer seeing his or her book in the bookstore for the first time :)
Ok, so onto Monday Made It! This week I worked on things for my Writer's Workshop. This year, I want my students to do color editing so they have a better idea of what they need to be looking for when they edit. I found I great check list from Mandy at Cooperative Learning 365. It looks like this:
She did an awesome job! Now, editing is not all that exciting, so adding color is a great idea. As previously stated, this year I am working on organization, so I made these to hold each color:
I got the original boxes from the Dollar Tree, added Mod Podge and scrapbook paper and viola! You could also use cans, I just am not patient enough to wait to use five of them. Here is a close-up of what one looks like:
I made cute containers to hold the editing pencils. I also created labels for them with an example of what the student needs to do with each. You can get the labels by clicking them below:
When students are ready to edit, they will grab a checklist and colored pencils and mark away! I plan on adding an editing poster at my writing workshop station as well so if the students find they have missed something, they can add the correct editing symbol onto their paper.

Success in Second Grade
I am always looking for a new, systematic, way for students to edit their writing. I love this and bet that your students will be so motivated by getting to use the "special" editing pencils from those super cute boxes!

lol I pinned your quiet critters, all the pins had the caption that I wrote. I was happy every time I saw the pin on pinterest which was like a million times!
ReplyDeleteI love the color editing idea! I might start out simple because my second graders haven't been taught when to start a new paragraph or about commas yet, but after we do those mini-lessons I can introduce those colors!
Adventures in Room 5
I love color editing too! The students are so much more motivated to check for each thing when it is recorded in a different color. Your pencils cups turned out so cute!
